2009 in Pictures

2009-in-pictures

I guess I have to start this post with the obligatory “sorry I’ve been away for so long” speech. Then again, that would be assuming that I still have people checking the blog to notice that I’ve been away. Bah, details shmetails.

Since I’ve been fond of lists lately, here’s one:

Reasons why Laura has been MIA lately:

  1. Semester with 5 classes and as many work hours as I could fit.
  2. Making 5 A’s!!
  3. I was temporarily turned into a zombie (see reasons 1 and 2).
  4. The house was burglarized in July (twice in one week - blog post to come sometime later).
  5. The house is now on the market.
  6. Because of reasons 4 and 5, Pixel and I are living at mom and dads. I am constantly traveling between both of my homes.
  7. I am in limbo. And I hate limbo.

So, now that we have that out of the way I can get on to the real reason for this post. It’s 2009! It came in quietly, and I am cautiously optimistic for the events that will happen in the next 365 days. I’m hoping for some other landmark events this year, but the main one will be graduation in December 2009. This chapter of my life will be over for now… and I can feel like a real person again instead of a walking to-do list.

A while back, I thought it would be neat to start the new year out by taking a photo every day to serve as a kind of visual diary of the year. I had planned on doing it, but never did. I think this year I’ll give it a shot… starting NOW! Hopefully I’ll be able to keep it up. I may have to get creative on days that nothing interesting happens… but I’ll cross that bridge when i get to it. Here goes nothing!!

What did I do today?

  • Went to my parents house for lunch… only we didn’t eat. There was a mix-up with the time, and we arrived 1.5 hours late. We hung out for a while anyway. My grandma (dad’s mom) was there, and gets the award for the quote of the day. She is 91, and is sharp as a tack. She has a pink cell phone, which I find cute in itself. The phone rang while we were sitting around the table talking, and when we made a comment about how great it is that she has a cell phone she said, “Well, I have been using a phone since 1918.” I guess we shouldn’t be so surprised when older people embrace technology. When you think about it, they have seen more new tech (or general inventions) than any of us. The television, sliced bread, antibiotics, sound film, ballpoint pens, helicopters, ATMs, computers, microwaves, digital clocks, VCRs - all invented after Grandma was born. I can only hope that when I grow old I will be as open minded and will embrace the technology of the time.
  • Met my brothers girlfriend Beth. Really I re-met her… they dated in high school. I adore her, and am so glad he reconnected with her. *fingers crossed*
  • Beat Portal on the 360
  • Went joyriding with Alan. He bought himself a 09 Mazda Speed3 before Christmas to replace his 88 CRX. It is so much fun to ride in, and he loves driving it. We used to go driving a lot when we first started dating… just roaming around, getting lost while talking and listening to music. Even though gas is a million times more expensive now, it was nice to do that again.
